Meet Rachael – Founder of Sisters of Sakina
For Rachael, Sisters of Sakina began with a simple realisation: many Muslim women are navigating their journey through Islam without the support and community they need.
Her own journey gave her a personal understanding of what that can feel like. After ten years of travelling solo to 34 countries, Rachael moved to Thailand in 2025. It was during a period of complete solitude that she discovered Islam.
She began learning about Islam through the Qur'an, developing a deep connection with Allah one page and one ayah at a time.
While her relationship with Allah brought her peace, her journey also made her realise how much she longed for sisterhood — someone to sit with, someone who understood and a community with whom to share the journey.
From Solo Travel to a Journey of Faith
Travel had been a major part of Rachael's life for many years. Over a decade, she travelled solo to 34 countries, experiencing different cultures, communities and ways of life.
Then, in 2025, she moved across the world to Thailand.
It was there, in solitude, that she found Islam.
Through the Qur'an, Rachael began discovering a deeper relationship with Allah. Her Islamic journey developed quietly and personally, with each page and each ayah becoming part of her growing connection with her faith.
While the journey brought her a profound sense of peace, it also highlighted something she was missing: community. That desire for connection would eventually become the foundation of Sisters of Sakina.
The Story Behind Sisters of Sakina
Rachael had always dreamed of creating retreats where women could come together and explore the world side by side. Her love of travel and her longing for Muslim sisterhood eventually came together to create something new.
Faith
Creating space for Muslim women to worship, reflect and strengthen their connection with Allah.
Sisterhood

Growth

Sisters of Sakina is about creating spaces where Muslim women can worship, reflect, connect and experience the world together.
A Sacred Journey Shared Together
For Rachael, travel has always been about more than simply visiting another destination. Travel creates opportunities to step away from familiar routines, experience something different and see the world from a new perspective.
Umrah brings that idea into a deeply spiritual setting. It is a journey to Makkah and Madinah, a chance to worship, reflect and reconnect with Allah.
Through Sisters of Sakina's approach to Umrah, Rachael wants Muslim women to experience this sacred journey together — surrounded by sisters who understand the importance of faith, community and spiritual connection.
